A personal note from Sam Christensen

Every person desires personal authenticity.  No one awakes saying, "I think I'll be a big phony today."  Most of us are very uncomfortable when some circumstance – meeting the in-laws, applying for the loan – causes us to over or underplay any facet of our identity.  And, certainly, any CEO or business leader hope his or her organization or team has a "feel" of authenticity.

In my early career as a Hollywood casting professional I often found myself giving specific advice to the young aspirants called back for M*A*S*H, the series I was lucky enough to be a part of.  I'd say, "you're doing great, now when you meet the director, just be yourself".  Their blank faces, taught me this well-intentioned recommendation never seemed to deliver the help I wanted for them. I felt driven to explore why the universally offered advice – just be yourself –   is really never contributive.

Eventually, I understood that offering the world your complete authenticity, is more complicated than just having the intention.  I dug down to uncover the reasons why our authenticity resolve never yields all the comfort and professional ease that we hope for.  Over the last twenty-five years I have developed techniques to address the essential impediments to authenticity and to conquer them.

I've assisted all sorts of professionals, from Hollywood to corporate America, to fully actualize the authenticity they want to demonstrate in their lives and work. I seem to have become an 'Authenticity Authority' and I'll be offering you some innovations and very actionable techniques when I sit down with you and Barbara Shannon on Tuesday, February 27.
